A lab shaker is a piece of laboratory equipment used in both chemical and biological applications to stir or agitate liquids. A typical shaker consists of a table or board that oscillates horizontally, powered by an electric motor. The liquids to be mixed can either be charged into a beaker or flat-bottomed flask and placed on top of the table and shaken, or placed into test tubes or vials that are positioned into holes in the plates. Samples in a lab shaker can be agitated via a linear motion, backwards and forwards, or by an orbital motion.

Laboratory shakers have largely been replaced by magnetic stirrers for many lab purposes, but are still preferred in some situations. One advantage of a laboratory shaker over a magnetic stirrer is that a number of samples can be mixed simultaneously under identical conditions, allowing for a fair and direct comparison between samples. Scilogex manufacturers a range of high-quality precision-made orbital and linear lab shakers for use in any laboratory situation.

Our lab shakers are available in two models, linear and orbital and two sizes, capable of shaking samples of up to a maximum load of 7.5 kg, which is more than adequate for most laboratory purposes. The shakers offer a range of shaking speeds, from 100 rpm to 500 rpm, allowing the user to select lower speeds for applications in which a more gentle shaking action is required, such as when creating cell cultures, and a faster speed for when more vigorous mixing is required. All orbital shakers and linear shakers from Scilogex incorporate a timer, allowing the user to specify the length time required for agitation, and therefore to leave the unit unattended during this time. An LCD digital display is also a feature of all our lab shakers, which clearly shows the speed of vibration and length of shaking time. Free software for PC control and data logging is also available.
